Opened in the '70s with less than 1,000 items, the National Watch and Clock Museum has grown into a sizable endeavor with more than 12,000 items, including vintage clocks, watches, tools for working on clocks and watches, and other time-related memorabilia. Focused largely on American timepieces from the 1800s, it also features Asian artifacts from Japan and China, timekeeping machines from Germany, English Tallcase clocks, and much more. The museum resides in a lovely, pillared building about 50 miles north of Baltimore, near Locust Street Park.
